Education

Currently, I am a Junior South Carolina Honors College International Development Studies Baccalaurius Artium et Scientiae (BARSC) attending the University of South Carolina.

Experience

Last year, I served for two semesters as a Supplemental Instruction Leader (SIL) at my university's student success center. While an SIL, I held additional learning and practice sections for both Business Calculus and Deductive Logic classes. I taught over three hundred unique students and worked with professors to create lesson plans. I have taken AP Calculus AB/BC and have completed a full year of calculus at my university. Tutoring, for me, is a means to help students get over similar struggles that I faced when I had to learn their material and also to help provide them with a compelling and accurate context within a greater academic framework for the material that they are learning. As I see it, providing such a context for the material and providing real life examples of pertinent implementation of that knowledge makes for a much more interesting, comprehendible, and desirable experience for the student.

Hobbies

When I'm not preoccupied with my studies, I enjoy spending time and performing with my friends in Off Off Broadway, the University of South Carolina's only student-run musical theater organization. To practice my Chinese language skills and business etiquette, I regularly attend meetings and putz around with our university's chapter of Global China Connections (GCC), South Carolina's largest chapter of the international GCC organization and one that I helped found during my Freshman year. Beyond those activities, I love nestling down with a good book or article from Harper's magazine, playing soccer (poorly), and debating passionately with my friends about whatever contentious issue is on our minds at the time.
