Hello! My name is Rachel, and I am a graduate of the Lexington High School Class of 2012. I am currently a second year year student at the University of South Carolina. As a participant in the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme, an LHS athletic trainer, and an intern of physical therapy, I have demonstrated exceptional work ethic and determination throughout my middle and high school careers. I am currently employed at a local after school enrichment center in Lexington, South Carolina. My experience in tutoring ranges from helping my two younger sisters with homework to helping students of all ages learn and reinforce topics at and above their levels at the learning enrichment center where I am currently employed. My philosophy about learning is that students should develop as independent learners with a natural curiosity about life and the world around them. I also believe that students should have a strong support system, which may or may not include extracurricular academic help, in order to promote an environment open to curiosity and academic development. As a tutor, my ultimate goal is to guide students in the right direction by tailoring to their specific needs as individuals. For some, this may include defining vocabulary for a further understanding of a given text; for others, this may entail the use of specific external examples that may be applied to the task at hand. As an IB student, I have participated in a learning environment filled with many different types of individuals and have learned that each student learns and interprets new information in a unique manner.
